Therapy FAQ's

How long does therapy take?

There are a lot of factors that contribute to the length of therapy, so it is difficult to predict until we begin working together.  We do  not want to rush the therapeutic process, but I  also do not want to keep you in therapy for longer than you need or want.

If after the initial screening we agree that EAP with me is a good fit  to meet for therapy, then I usually recommend a  minimum of 8-12 sessions.  We will check in on your progress often and the end of the 8-12 sessions. Together we will evaluate to see if you are reaching your goals or if we need to change up the approach.

How often do we meet?

Just like the length of therapy varies- so does the frequency.  I have found that meeting weekly improves progress faster.

However, depending on your goals, where  you are at in meeting your goals, or if you are currently receiving therapy or coaching elsewhere, sessions may occur every other week.

What if I am currently in therapy?

Equine assisted  psychotherapy works well as an adjunct to traditional therapy.  Since this work is experiential in nature, it is different than talk therapy and not considered a duplication of services.  Many people alternate weekly  between therapists due to equine therapy providing an avenue to practice the skills they are learning in  traditional therapy.  I consult and collaborate with many therapists in the area to coordinate care.

What is  your availability?

Appointments are available throughout the week, mornings, afternoons and early evenings. Due to working outdoors, sessions are based on daylight, so I have less availability in the Winter.

Please note that I do not work on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

How do you keep my counseling and treatment information secure?

All client records are stored in a HIPAA compliant, cloud based system that is certified and securely encrypted. Telehealth sessions are conducted over a HIPPA complaint video system.

Equine Assisted Psychotherapy sessions are held at private horse facility to ensure privacy and confidentiality.
